In its bid to contribute to the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan 2017-2020 of the Government of Nigeria, leveraging the ingenuity and resilience of the Nigerian people, 9Mobile is leveraging on a new satellite technology to take digital applications to the rural areas.

The satellite technology, known as, Yazmi, provides a unique and highly cost-effective technology infrastructure for rural, remote areas in Nigeria.

 The satellite based technology is capable of streaming content to tablets anywhere in the country at any time and can be used to educate Students across the country, develop capacity of staff efficiently, or students and live-stream content to train them to study.

 In addition, having the satellite enabled tablet in the family allow extension of the service of collaboration to other stakeholders to broadcast information on health, social and economic issues, and agricultural information/Content just to mention a few.

Competent sources at 9mobile told eWorldNews that the technology was already being deployed in some locations across the country.

9Mobile hopes to replicate the successes Yazmi has recorded in Ethiopia’s health sector, where it has been found as the most efficient and cost-effective way of sending content to a larger community. There is no dependence on telecoms, internet or the power grid.

There are no usage costs, unlimited users, abundant content and ubiquitous coverage.

When compared with mobile carriers, Yazmi is more than 80% cheaper of the total cost, including data usage.

 Also pilot studies in Kenya have shown major improvement in education outcomes, with the median grades of students taught using the Yazmi system in Mathematics and English improving by a statistically significant amount versus control groups.

Yazmi Odyssey tablets can be charged with solar charger,  bundled with an AC power charger, but for homes that do not have electrical outlets or that face frequent and sustained power outages, the Yazmi solar-powered charging station, can provide the power to charge the

Odyssey tablet quickly and efficiently.

 Unlike other solar chargers that simply connect a solar panel to a tablet, the Yazmi charging station uses a large 5-watt (5W) solar panel to charge an 8800 milliamp-hour (mAh) lithium-ion storage battery. The tablet can be connected as needed to the storage battery to quickly and safely recharge the tablet battery.

The storage battery has sufficient capacity when fully charged to recharge the Odyssey three consecutive times and is claimed to be the world’s first satellite-enabled tablet computer, Odyssey, which combines its Direct-to- Person satellite technology with benefits of tablet computers.

 It has a unique satellite based technology capable of streaming content to tablets anywhere in the country, at any time and can be used to educate students across the country, develop capacity of staff efficiently, or even send live-streaming content to its students.

Odyssey is a compact customized satellite-integrated Android®tablet, which could be embedded with educational tools and is field-tested educational apps, can be recharged using electrical mains or the Yazmi solar-power charging station.

It is believed by those who have used it, that Yazmi offers dramatically better connectivity and coverage than 3Gplatforms and is more convenient and reliable than traditional satellite platforms.
