The board of Directors of Stanbic IBTCA has appointed Ms Nkemdilim Cay Uwaje as a non-executive director with effect from November 18, 2019. Ms Uwaje is daughter of Nigeria’s IT Oracle, Chris Uwaje.
Uwaje began her professional career in Germany, where she worked on high profile research projects at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for psychiatric research in the department for statistical genetics and proteomics, as well as for the Pharmaceutical Company, Affectis Pharmaceuticals AG, Germany.
She graduated from the Ludwig Maximilian University and Technical University, Germany, where she received a Bsc in Bioinformatics. Her entrepreneurial journey started with Future Software Resources Limited, and she has been at the helm of the business ever since.
Prior to her appointment at Future Software Resources Nigeria, Uwaje was involved in various research projects, such as the Wazobia Linux initiative, the eGovernment Interoperability Framework, NITDA Open Standards Framework, as well as the deployment of e-commerce and e-portal solutions in the Nigerian public and private sector..
A press released signed by the banks company secretary, Chidi Okezie described Uwaje, as respected and recognized as leader in her industry and has been in the IT and Tech business for about 10 years. Uwaje has received many awards including the Jim Ovia Prize for Software Excellence and the Etisalat Prize for Innovation. She regularly volunteers for for mentoring and empowerment programmes, often sharing her experiences with young Nigerians and less privileged children.
Uwaje is recognized as a 2019 Obama African Leader, Forbes Top Ten Female Tech Founders to watch in Africa, Global Digital Women top 10 Most Inspiring Women in Africa, Lioness of Africa to 100 Women, YTech top 100 most Innovative in Nigerian tech space and other awards.
