Federal Government has frowned at the slow pace of work on Kano-Shuwarin section of Kano- Maiduguri Road, urging Dantata & Sawoe, the contractors handling rehabilitation of the road to speed up work to deliver the job on target.

The Minister of State for Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu expressed the Federal Government’s feelings when he inspected the road.

He said that there is an urgent need for the contractor to deliver on time because of the   frequent accidents on the road.

According to him,  the  bad section of the road  between Wudil and Gaya has caused a lot of accidents.

To this effect, Aliyu expressed  disappointment with the level of work by the contractors in two months from his last visit in December, urging the contractor to double up efforts to meet the target

He told the contractor to confront the rehabilitation from both Wudil and Gaya sides in order to finish on time.

Aliyu  urged them to bring more machineries and additional staff on site, reiterating the commitment  of President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver good roads infrastructure for Nigerians.

“We cannot always sit in our offices in Abuja, expecting results without  coming out to have first-hand information on the situation of the roads.  That’s why we are always going out for supervision”he said.

Aliyu also added that  in order to assist Mr President fulfill his promise to deliver on the  roads, his senior minister,  Babatunde Raji Fashola and himself are always running  round the clock to ensure that a good result is achieved.

“Recently,  my senior colleague,  Babatunde  Fashola was in Edo and Niger states on  roads inspection. I was in Numan, Adamawa State,  yesterday, and now here in Kano State. We divided ourselves to ensure things are  in order” he said.

In a statement, the contractor, however, promised to mobilise additional machines and staff to the site in the next two weeks as requested by the minister, adding that they will concentrate on the  dangerous areas of the road in order to reduce the rate of accidents.
