The Bale of Adesoba, Chief Jimoh Raheem and the vice chairman of the community, Mr Femi Ekundayo, have disagreed over the cause of the explosion that killed at least 15 people and damaged house and properties.
The vice chairman, who spoke to the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the scene insist the incident was caused by pipeline explosion that was ignited by a truck parked around a leaked spot of the pipeline.
On the other hand the Bale, who spoke to eWorldnews claimed that it was a bomb explosion. His views were corroborated by others who milled around him, by the time eworldnews spoke with him.
According to Ekundayo there has been leakages caused by an imperfection in the laying of the pipeline at the spot that was ignited by the truck. He said the NNPC did not bury the pipeline deep enough resulting from leakages at the spot. Every other claim among them, that of NNPC that a gas processing company caused the explosion is false, he said.
Ekundayo noted that the gas company, NIPCO is far away from the scene of the occurrence to have caused the explosion and the buildings around the area are so well built that people do not sell nor leave gas cylinders carelessly on the ground and being alleged.
When eworldnews told Chief Raheem of what Ekundayo told the governor, the Bale said the VP cannot know the cause of the explosion because he was not around at the time of the incident. “I was in my house when the explosion happened. We just heard an explosion. I was the one who called Ekundayo to inform him of the explosion, so he is not an eye-witness. So, he cannot say what he is saying.
When his attention was drawn to the presence of a truck around the spot where the fire was still burning this morning, Chief Raheem said, “I do not know anything about the truck”.
At the scene of the event today, residents who milled around wanting to have a word with the governor kept on saying what happened yesterday was a bomb blast.
An official pronouncement of the cause of the explosion would not be known until the 18-man committee set up yesterday by governor Sanwo-Olu gives its report in two weeks’ time.
What is sure though is that the gas station situated over 350 metres away from where the explosion occurred couldn’t have been the cause.
The building housing the gas company, NIPCO is untouched by the fire and smoke of the explosion.
