St Jude Private School’s 2020 social awareness programme, held yesterday at the school’s premises, in Festac Town, was remarkable and exemplary, as students in several dramatic renditions showcased the importance of several professions to society, human well-being and economic development.
The students also used the occasion to display their various talents and send a message to youths and students that only hard work, diligence and practice pay and that bad company derails from achieving set goals.
They also underscored the fact that short cuts and illegal means to achieving objectives and success would always be short-lived as one is likely to end up in jail and attract society’s ridicule.
Some of the professions that were on display are banking, law, engineering, police, medicine, pharmacy, teaching, soccer, engineering, politics, entertainment and marketing.
The students gave the origin of the various professions and the various ways they help society and humanity.
In an address to over 400 parents, guests and students at the event, the school’s principal, Mr Douglas Anunugwo said the event is held so that the students would present the twin qualities of professionalism and character and to meticulously take the guests through the offices of eleven professional organizations in Nigeria and relay the happenings that surround them in the light of character.
According to him professionalism is the competence or skill expected of a person engaged in a specified activity as one’s main paid occupation and not an amateur, adding that character on the other hand is the sum total of the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Professionalism and character always go hand in hand for any community to attain greatness.
Anunugwo said good character is a core quality the St. Jude Private Secondary School thrives at all time to inculcate in her students.
