An eight-man team of the Satellite Town Forum, (STF) , made of medical practitioners and social workers, went out yesterday on a campaign asking residents of the community to obey the Lagos State and Federal Government instructions so as to keep away Coronavirus from spreading in the country.
The outing, according to Mr Governor Imitini, chairman of STF, was part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of the Forum that is engaged in the fight to end the activities of tank farms and their trucks from turning the community to a potential killing field.
The team was led by Initimi, and supported by the Medical Director of Total Care, a hospital in the community, Dr Donald Anyogu and Dr Nkem Olayinka Ugah, a consultant pathologist. Other members of the team include Aaron Ukodie, publisher of eWorldnews. Com.ng, who mounted the public address system and Mrs Grace Okwazu, one of those who drove the team around.
The team was well-kitted with face masks, hand gloves, and observing the social distance rules of the government, washing and sanitizing their hands as they moved from one street and close and estate to another.
They procured over 400 sanitizers, with money provided by residents, which they shared to those who are unable to buy them.
The team shared leaflets that contained the government and medical expert’s information on how Nigerians should behave so they do not contact or share the virus.
Drs Anyogu and Ugah provided medical explanation about the Covid-19 virus, debunked myths circulating about it and answered questions of residents and issues that are related to it.
The team began its work by 9 am and rounded up by 7pm, reaching several estates, closes, streets and roads in Satellite Town, Ijegin-Egba, and covering over 500 hundred homes, with residents watching from their balconies to hear what the team had to say.
Though team was largely received, but it met with hostilities in some areas where residents thought the team had taken money from government and were not willing to share it to them. Some other residents were annoyed that the government wants them to stay at home without providing them necessary palliatives to help them tide through this period.
