In response to the call by the federal government to corporate Nigeria to assist in providing food to needy Nigerians so as to survive the Covid- 19 lock-down, Tank Farm owners in Ijegun-Satellite Town have distributed 1000 bags of rice ( 10kilo), 1000 cartons of indomie and 1008 bottles of groundnut oil to the communities around them.
The palliatives were contributed by three of the Tank Farm owners. They are Emadeb Petroleum Company, A. A. Rano Limited and Manij Petroleum Company.
The palliatives were distributed through the help of officials of Satellite Town Forum (STF), which the Tank Farm owners approached to ensure all communities, estates and closes in the area get an equitable share of the palliatives.
Seven Community Development Areas (CDAs) in Ijegun, three in the riverine area got several bags and cartons of the food items. Five zones and other estates within Satellite Town also got shares of the items. The food items also went to indigent communities (omoniles) in the area.
Secretary of the Tank Farm Owners Association, Mr Eshiet Eshiet said the palliatives were meant for the communities and they were giving them out as part of their response to government’s call for companies to assist in helping the needy at this time of Covid-19 lockdown.
According to him the services of STF was requested because the Tank Farm owners felt it was the only credible platform it could use to reach the people in an equitable manner.
Speaking at hand over ceremony which took place on the ground of Emadeb Company on Thursday, STF president, Mr Govenor Imitini said he was approached due to his dual position as one of the most respected CDA chairman and also the Chairman of Satellite Town Forum.
He emphasised the need for the tank farms operators to carry out the promise made on the dualisation of Mumuni Adio Badmus Road, popularly known as Buba Marwa Road, construction of the agreed alternative roads, drainage construction works in the community, and of course the relocation of the tank farms in next five years.
He equally stated that giving of palliative to the residents of Satellite town and it’s environs does not in any way stop the forum agitations.
