Nokia is giving telecommunications operators an early look at how artificial intelligence could reshape mobile network operations, with the launch of a new service that introduces AI-agent capabilities into the mobile core.
The initiative provides a preview of what Nokia describes as an increasingly AI-native approach to mobile core technology, as network operators look for ways to automate complex processes, improve efficiency and respond more rapidly to changing network conditions.
AI agents are emerging as one of the most closely watched developments in the technology industry. Unlike conventional software tools that perform narrowly defined tasks, AI agents are designed to interpret information, make decisions and take actions with varying degrees of autonomy.
For telecom operators, the potential applications are significant. AI agents could help monitor network performance, identify problems, automate routine operations and support faster responses to service disruptions.
But Nokia’s move also highlights an important question: how much control should operators give to AI systems managing critical communications infrastructure?

As AI agents move closer to the heart of mobile networks, reliability, security, accountability and the ability for humans to intervene will become just as important as the technology’s ability to perform tasks autonomously.
