The Oproza Grammar School Old Students Association (OGSOSA) Worldwide on Saturday paid final respects to one of its distinguished members, Mr. Enebimieowei Kwashie Buseni, an accomplished alumnus and former teacher of the school.
Mr. Buseni was laid to rest in his ancestral home, Trofani Town, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, amid deep emotions and solemn reflections.
The burial ceremony drew family members, friends, former colleagues, and a strong delegation from OGSOSA, reflecting the high esteem in which the late educator was held.
Leading the delegation, the Worldwide President of OGSOSA, Dr. (Mrs.) Celestina Predia Kekai, described Mr. Buseni’s death as a painful loss to his family and the entire Oproza Grammar School community. She praised his life of service, noting his remarkable journey from an outstanding student to a devoted teacher who helped shape generations of young minds.
Dr. Kekai said his life symbolised a rare transition from beneficiary to benefactor, adding that the large turnout of OGSOSA members was a fitting tribute to a man whose dedication, discipline, and integrity embodied the association’s values. She assured the family of OGSOSA’s continued support and said his contributions would remain an enduring part of the school’s history.
In a moving tribute read by Mr. Alegi Ebiotu Lari on behalf of the Class of 1976, titled “Sampson Buseni — The Chike Obi of Our Time.” Alegi described the late Buseni, fondly called Kwashie, as a brilliant mathematician whose effortless command of numbers earned him the nickname “the Chike Obi of our time.”
He recalled how Kwashie calmly mastered Additional Mathematics, assisted struggling classmates, and generously shared his knowledge with humour and warmth. After the West African School Certificate Examinations (WAEC), the school retained him as a teacher in recognition of his brilliance and rare gift for teaching. He was also remembered as a talented footballer who represented the school with pride.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mr. Kwashie Buseni Jnr. expressed gratitude to OGSOSA for its support during their father’s illness and burial rites.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a cash donation by the OGSOSA National Executive and the Class of ’76, of which the late Kwashie was a member, to the bereaved family.
