Managing Director of Digital Realty Nigeria, Ike Nnamani, has thrown his weight behind the forthcoming eWorld Forum and the launch of a new book celebrating 25 years of Nigeria’s GSM revolution.
Nnamani’s support places Digital Realty among a growing group of major industry stakeholders backing the GSM@25 initiative, which seeks to celebrate the pioneers, institutions and professionals whose contributions helped transform Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape.
The initiative has also received support from the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and Dr Ernest Ndukwe, former Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC and Chairman of MTN Nigeria.
Ndukwe was a key figure in Nigeria’s telecommunications transformation, having served as NCC Executive Vice Chairman from 2000 to 2010, during the formative years of the GSM era. His support further underscores the industry significance of the anniversary initiative.
Nnamani’s involvement is particularly noteworthy given Digital Realty’s expanding role in the infrastructure that now underpins Nigeria’s digital economy.
In April 2026, Digital Realty activated a new IXPN Point of Presence (PoP) at its Ibeju-Lekki data centre in Lagos, connecting the facility with its Victoria Island campus and strengthening local internet interconnection.
The development enables more internet traffic to be exchanged locally, helping to reduce latency and improve connectivity for IXPN members. The exchange now serves more than 130 organisations, including internet service providers, cloud operators and content platforms.
The Lekki expansion followed Digital Realty’s launch of its LKK2 data centre in August 2025, which added nearly 2MW of IT capacity and further consolidated Lagos’ position as a key digital infrastructure hub.
Nnamani’s support for the GSM@25 initiative therefore comes at a time when Digital Realty is helping to build the digital infrastructure required to sustain the transformation that Nigeria’s GSM revolution helped ignite.
The eWorld Forum and GSM@25 book launch on September 4, 2024 at Oriental Hotel, Lagos, are expected to bring together telecommunications pioneers, policymakers, regulators, industry executives, technology entrepreneurs and journalists to reflect on the remarkable journey of Nigeria’s telecoms industry and honour those who helped make the GSM revolution possible.
